Early aviation supporters were always looking for useful purposes for the airplane.

One idea was to use them as carriers of cargo. In November 1910, the first shipment of air freight took place when a department store dispatched a shipment of silk by air from Dayton to Columbus, Ohio.

We have come a long way since, and now the air freight industry remains a mix of large companies, small operators, and passenger airlines.
